vida.
Questionários WHOQOL-Abreviado e WHOQOL-Old.
GII 5,6 e do GIII= 5,9.
No

The retirement is a topic of increasing interest for researchers, politicians and
professionals from distinct areas of knowledge, due to the population aging process, the
meanings of work and the retirement by itself in the contemporary society. In this
context, studies, laws and policies has emphasized the necessity of sustaining in good

three participants groups, all of them from the masculine gender, active or retired works
from a multinational industry installed at the region of São João da Boa Vista city, state
of São Paulo. The Group I was formed with 25 members in the imminence of
retirement, the Group II received 25 ex-workers already retired but still in activity in the
industry, and the Group III with 25 ex-workers without performing any activity in the
industry. The collecting data tools were based on a characterization questionnaire to be
applied to the search participants, and keywords directly related to the retirement
meaning, the Happiness Subjective Scale (HSS) and the WHOQOL-abbreviated and
WHOQOL-Old questionnaires. There were obtained 58 different keywords for the
retirement meaning, 41 (70,7%) of them classified through a positive dimension with
predominance of peacefulness, personal fulfillment and satisfaction, with the results

Concerning the WHOQOL-abbreviated questionnaire, both the Groups (II and III)
containing ex-workers retired presented general average values lightly superior to 4.0
points, when compared to the Group I of workers before retirement (3,9). Despite of
that, it is important to emphasize that the indexes for all three Groups can be classified
as a good QL. The domain Environment was the one with worst performance in the
three groups, in special the Group I. Related to WHOQOL-Old questionnaire, the
average score for Group I was 3.5, for Group II 3.7 and for Group II 3.6 points. The
points for the three groups are very close each other and they can be classified in the
level of good QL. The facet that comprehends the options, Death and Die, reached the
lower average score among the three searched groups. The statistical analysis permitted
to compare the average values obtained by the three groups and the results indicated
significant differences between the IGH from Group I and III (p-value = 0.011 for a
level of significance of 95%). In terms of Physical domain of QL between the Groups I
and II, the p-value encountered between the Groups I and II was 0.036 for a level of
significance of 95%. By the other hand, between the Groups I and II, and between II
and III, the p-value cal |
