Abstract
Based on genetic epistemology, the present study aimed to construct and validate a scale of environmental moral judgment for children 8 to 12 years of age. The scale is composed of two factors: heteronomy and autonomy. 581 children between the ages of 8 and 12, both boys and girls, attended public and private schools in the city of São João da Boa Vista / SP. The sample will be divided into 5 age groups (8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 years old), composed of approximately 116 participants. The NEP (New Environmental Paradigm) scale was used for the validation study. The exploratory factorial analysis of the environmental moral judgment scale and the correlation of the scale with the NEP Scale were performed. The dimensionality of the instrument was explored using the Hull Confirmatory Fit Index method, based on a Unweighted Least Square (ULS) categorical exploratory factorial analysis with polychromatic correlations. The final set of items was evaluated using a Weigted Least Square Mean and Variance-adjusted (WLSMV) categorical confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, a Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC) analysis was used to investigate the possibility of constructing a clinical cut-off point for the instrument. The purpose of these cutoffs was to make the use of the tool viable for screening purposes in educational contexts. It is hoped that an instrument that involves morality can help educational professionals to understand children's thinking about the fundamental environmental rules of our time.
